Name: Kuroyukihime, referred to as Hime by her best friend (and for the rest of this app), is called senpai by the rest of the cast
Canon: Accel World
Canon Point: Episode 4
Age: 15
History:
Here. Note that the English translation of the LN is about 10-11 volumes behind of the Japanese release… so we'll be going down the anime route which stops at vol 4.
Personality:
(*In canon terminology for the canon blind to make reading this app easier:
Neurolinker: A portable computer terminal worn around a person's neck. It allows for connection to the global net or a local network as well as access to virtual reality spaces. It has the same purpose as a smartphone: Making calls, receiving calls, sending and receiving files and messages, checking email, playing games and can even be used as an e-wallet. Anyone with a neurolinker sees the interface as a heads up display that appears right in your field of vision through your eyes and is invisible to everyone but the user. When accessing these virtual reality spaces, the person's body loses consciousness and instead gains control of a net avatar unique to them. Two people can connect their neurolinkers using a link cable which allows them to access each other's files as well as talk to each other telepathically. This is usually seen as an intimate action and reserved for people who are dating.
Brain Burst: A virtual reality fighting game. Battles are usually 1v1. Usually. Winners gain burst points used for acceleration (see abilities section) and losers lose burst points. If you lose all your burst points, Brain Burst is immediately uninstalled and the user is no longer to reinstall it nor can they remember ever having it in the first place. Players are assigned avatars whose names and abilities usually have some sort of deeper meaning relevant to their dreams and their weaknesses.
Now we can move on.)
On the surface, Kuroyukihime does indeed present herself as a princess. Her school is her kingdom and the students her subjects. To them, she's the model student: poised, graceful, a model student and vice president of the student council. Because of this and how she carries herself, she's earned the respect and admiration of the student body. She never directly shows herself as superior or arrogant. Everyone is treated with a measure of respect, be they first year students or seniors. Even among the members of her legion, she tells one of her subordinates not to call her master even if she is their king. Everyone is treated like an equal... unless of course you've proven yourself deserving of her ire. Her sense of superiority is subtle; the kind that takes a while to make you realize she just insulted you, the kind that gives her a rather snooty air. However, she saves these for the most extreme cases (ie: people who bully those who she cares about or anyone who oversteps her territorial boundaries). She never results to outright insulting or name calling, instead choosing to snipe at someone with a sharp tongue. She has the sort of confidence that shows that she gives no fucks: openly declaring in public that she had confessed to Haruyuki Arita and taunting the student who bullied him just to provoke him to attack. This confidence comes from the fact she always has a plan for every approach. Taunting that bully caused him to attack and thus caused his probation since the whole thing was caught on the school's security camera. She's also seen as a very independent girl who seems to give off the air of one older than she actually is. She's explained this away as having spent too much time in the Accelerated World. But as most gamers do, Hime has fallen into the trap of neglecting the real world for the Accelerated World. She's sometimes seen as distant by Megumi, the secretary of the student council but has changed ever since she met Haruyuki. Perhaps that's how she's always been, being a high level player and forced to live independently after being cut off from her parents. But over time, she changes, realizing that she had indeed started to neglect Megumi's friendship and forging other connections amongst the members of her Legion.
Her princess status isn't just for show, either. In the game Brain Burst, she holds the same level of prestige as one of the seven level 9 players in the game. She is Black Lotus, the Black King. World End. One of the seven kings of pure color. A player feared for being a traitor toward the truce agreed upon by the other kings. During the meeting to discuss this peace treaty, she went against the truce and killed the red king. Ever since then, she had gone into hiding and become one of the most hunted players in the entire game. However, this wasn't something she did out of pure malice. Rather it was something she did for her own ambition. There is one more level higher than level 9 and if one were to reach this level, one would be able to talk to the creator of Brain Burst and find out why it was created in the first place. But to reach level 10, a player is required to defeat six other level 9 players. Hime was willing to put aside things like being allies and friendships and truces to get the answers she wanted. However, it isn't to say that she doesn't know how to play nice. After all, she forges a temporary truce with the next Red King (Crimson Rain) to defeat Chrome Disaster, a member of the Red Legion that had fallen victim to a cursed item. The other members of her Legion (Takumu Mayuzumi and Chiyuri Kurashima) both started as figures of frustration for her. Takumu was initially out to murder her in-game and Chiyuri she saw as a romantic rival. However, these differences were resolved and the two were welcomed as trusted members of her Legion once it was reformed. She also carries a sense of comman responsibility for her Legion. Even if she was away on a trip to Okinawa, she connected to the game and hurried to the duel they had in Tokyo which is no mean feat. What was a minute in the real world was a full fifteen hours in the accelerated world. Her Legion isn't just her army or a collection of lackeys. As their king, she knows that she has to protect them no matter how much Haru and Taku insist on saying they should protect her. A king is only as good as its army and she knew it wouldn't do any good to attack the other kings without allies of her own, thus her need to reform Nega Nebulus. But she never once made a direct attack on any other king, knowing that her small Legion (still small by the end of the anime) wouldn't be enough to actually take down another larger Legion. This, if anything shows how she's got a sound head on her shoulders when it comes to strategy. Instead of charging in without proper preparation, she knows when to back off and when to wait for the best chance to resume her campaign.
This is where the aforementioned Haruyuki Arita comes into play.
Haruyuki is a bit of a doormat who is easily bullied into doing someone's will. However, Hime never once took advantage of this facet of his personality even if she did first contact him with the intent of getting him to join BB just to deal with Taku's assassination attempts. Instead, she initially gets his attention by besting him in Virtual Squash, his best game and seems to take a genuine interest in him over time and. Her violent reaction toward Haruyuki accusing her of showing interest in him just so she can have one "imperfection" in her life was a clear indicator of her feelings. Even when she recruits him for her team, she never once bosses him around or orders him to protect her. Instead, her command responsibility comes into play and she promises to protect him, as his guardian and "Parent" (ie, the person who got him into the game). Her relationship with him is ambiguous at best, a constant exchange of "are they or aren't they" although it's obvious that they're interested in each other. Hime outright states that she loves him and while she does kiss hissmall, cute, cartoony pig net avatar, she never shows any outward signs of affection in the real world (no holding hands, no cheek kissing). However, it's with Haruyuki that we see a more casual Hime, one who doesn't need to keep up pretenses. She seems to enjoy reactions, often eliciting them from Haruyuki by taking snapshots of him with her neurolinker after he flails in surprise and casually acting suggestive and flirtatious around him. And jealous. Boy, does she ever get jealous.
Underneath her kingly exterior, it's easy to forget that Hime is an ordinary teenage girl with insecurities and fears like everyone else. This is most obvious when faced with anyone who threatens to come between her and Haruyuki. Her jealousy can be triggered by the tiniest detail and her reaction borders on petty. When Haruyuki cable-linked with his childhood friend, Hime hurried off in a huff when she was told the cable they used was a really short cable. Later that afternoon, she asked Haru to cable link with her using a shorter cable than what she and Haru were previously using. She was also quick to declare that she was sleeping over when another girl invited herself to stay at Haru's apartment for the night when his mom was away. But there's some deep seated hurt rooted in that jealousy. She was quick to be brought to tears at the thought of Haru deciding to give up Brain Burst if he ever "lost weight and became hot". Despite her confidence with most things, her own insecurities are her biggest weakness as they lead to emotional outbursts and sudden impulsive decisions.
Abilities:
Acceleration:
Acceleration is the signature ability of anyone involved in Brain Burst. "Burst Linkers fight so they can accelerate". After calling out "Burst Link", the linker's brainwaves are accelerated so that time appears to have slowed down (1 second = 1000 seconds, 16 minutes and 40 seconds). The world around the linker is shown as a blue field which comes from the security cameras around them and is fed directly to their field of view via their neurolinker. The linker's own body remains where it was when burst linking was declared but their consciousness exists outside of it as their net avatar and moves in real time. Accelerating has many uses: cheat on an exam, plan a move when in a fight and with a secondary command called "physical full burst" (see below) even manipulate the world itself. However, this comes at the cost of one Burst Point. These points are earned by fighting matches in Brain Burst.
Physical Full Burst:
PFB is a command specifically for level 9 Burst Linkers at the cost of 99% of their Burst Points. It accelerates not only the linker's brainwaves but their nerve signals and heart rate, allowing them to move their physical body while accelerating. Obviously this can put great physical strain on the linker's body and is used as a last-ditch effort because of the high risk.
Strengths: Ambitious, forward thinking, good at strategy, poised, good leadership qualities
Weaknesses: Petty, not good with her own emotions, bit of a superiority complex, impulsive, prone to jealous fits
God/Shinki: God
Why?: Hime was always in a leader position so having her as a god would be great. That and I was hoping it would give her a new perspective on the game.
Top 3 Choices: Itzpapalotl, Metzli, Maman Bridgette
God Type: A war god for the first. If the second, she'll be a death goddess.
Power: If accepted as Itzpapalotl, Hime will be able to create large, functioning black butterfly wings.
